Exchange safety guide / Access interrupted9 min read • Reviewed 2 Aug 2026
What to do when an exchange freezes withdrawals
A delayed withdrawal can be an asset-specific maintenance issue, an account review, a bank-rail problem or a platform-wide crisis. Preserve evidence first, identify the scope, and avoid actions that deepen exposure.
Identify the scope before choosing a response
A request may be waiting for confirmations, compliance review, liquidity, network processing or corrected details.
Identity, source-of-funds, security, court or law-enforcement checks may restrict a particular customer.
Wallet maintenance, chain incidents or delisting can affect a route while other withdrawals continue.
Broad restrictions, silence, restructuring or inconsistent balances can indicate a more serious operational or financial event.
Do not pay to unlock unexplained access
A genuine platform may require identity or source-of-funds documents through its secure account process. An unsolicited agent demanding a separate tax, security deposit, wallet transfer or remote access is a serious warning sign. Verify every instruction inside the known service.
Preserve the account while you still can
- Account identity and legal entity shown in the current terms
- Asset, quantity, network and available balance
- Withdrawal request ID, address, timestamp and displayed status
- INR bank details or crypto transaction hash, when issued
- Screenshots plus original downloadable account records
- Support tickets, responses, incident notices and promised timelines
- Deposits, trades, fees, TDS statements and tax exports
Keep original files alongside screenshots. Avoid repeatedly editing orders, cancelling requests or trading the remaining balance unless you understand how that affects the record and your position.
Use a documented escalation path
- Open one clear support case with the exact request and evidence.
- Use the platform grievance or escalation route in its current terms.
- Check the verified status page, official notices and legal-entity announcements.
- Check relevant FIU-IND, court, insolvency, police or cybersecurity notices when an authority is named.
- Set calendar reminders and preserve each response instead of relying on social-media claims.
Security incident, insolvency and fraud are different
A hack can create tracing and recovery questions. Insolvency or a restructuring can create formal claim deadlines and creditor rules. Account takeover or deceptive support can require urgent fraud reporting. Do not assume that a normal support ticket is the only route for every scenario.
Keep tax and ownership records separate from access
A frozen balance is not automatically a completed disposal or a deductible loss. Preserve acquisition cost, transaction history and incident records, and seek tax or legal advice before treating an inaccessible asset as sold, lost or written off.
