P2P crypto: a checklist before you release funds

P2P trading combines platform rules, a bank or payment rail, and a counterparty. Never let a receipt image or urgent message replace verification inside your own accounts.

01

Three systems must agree

Check the P2P order, the platform identity, and your own payment account. A screenshot, SMS, email, or counterparty screen-share can be edited or unrelated to the order.

02

A third-party payment changes the risk

A payment from a different name can make identity, consent, and later disputes harder to explain. Do not improvise a solution in chat. Follow the platform’s current rules and open its dispute process.

03

Keep the transaction on the platform

Moving to Telegram, WhatsApp, a direct bank arrangement, or a new order can remove evidence and platform protections. Do not cancel a valid order simply because the counterparty promises another payment.

04

A bank credit can still be connected to earlier fraud

Checking your own account protects against fake receipts, but it cannot reveal the full source-of-funds chain. A later cyber-fraud complaint may lead to a lien or restriction while the payment trail is examined. Avoid third-party funds and preserve the complete order.

Understand bank-freeze and lien response
05

Before releasing crypto

  • The matching payment is visible in my own bank or payment account, while I understand that a later fraud complaint or lien can still occur.
  • The payer name matches the verified platform counterparty.
  • No one has asked me to move the conversation or settlement off-platform.
  • I have not relied on a screenshot, SMS, email, or screen-share as proof of payment.
  • The platform order status and amount match the actual payment.
  • There is no unexplained third-party account, split payment, refund request, or urgency.
  • I have preserved the order ID, chat, payer details, timestamps, and payment evidence.

If something looks wrong

Do not release, refund, or send a separate payment under pressure. Preserve the platform chat and order details, use the official dispute channel, contact your payment provider through a verified route, and report suspected online financial fraud quickly.
